about this site
This site was created by graduate students at the University of San Diego enrolled in the LEAD 550/600 course: Leadership Theory and Practice. Our small group is tasked with explaining the situational and contingency styles of leadership. We aim to do this in a way that helps the viewer understand the concepts within these theories and to offer an analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. On this site you will find a combination of written and graphical information about the theories, exercises to help foster deeper understanding, and links to external resources that contain additional information.
The focus of this site is not intended to suggest that contingency and situational leadership are necessarily better or worse than other theories of leadership. Instead it is an attempt to provide a knowledge base on these particular theories. Visitors interested in the study of the field of leadership are encouraged to also explore other approaches. For those new to the field "Leadership: Theory and Practice" by Peter Northouse is recommended as one possible resource from which to branch out into other theories.
